A90 Konservering av soluret på Tjølling kirke. Larvik kommune

Abstract

Soluret fra Tjølling kirke var fra 2020-2023 til undersøkelse og konservering på NIKUs konserveringsatelier. I 2020 ble soluret tilstandsvurdert, materialbruken undersøkt og opprinnelig fargesetting kartlagt. Tilstandsvurderingen viste at konstruksjonen i tre er værslitt, men i forholdsvis stabil tilstand. Metalldelene på soluret var korroderte og trengte behandling, samtidig som malingen på forsiden skallet opp og hadde dårlig feste til underlaget. På baksiden av soluret var det også spor for vekst av muggsopp, og saltutslag. I 2023 fikk NIKU i oppdrag fra Riksantikvaren å konservere soluret. Forliggende rapport dokumenterer konserveringsarbeidet som omfattet sikring av konstruksjon, rensing for smuss, muggs-opp og salt, festing av maling og konservering av metalldeler. Behandling av metallet ble utført av metallkonservator ved Bevaringstjenestene, Museumssenteret i Hordaland.

From 2020-2023 the sundial from the church of Tjølling was examined and treated at NIKUs conservations studio. In 2020 its condition was as sessed, the use of materials examined, and the original color scheme mapped. The condition assessment showed that the sundials construction was worn from weathering, but in more or less stable condition. The metal parts of the sundial were corroded and needed treatment, while the paint on the front was peeling off and had poor adhesion to the substrate. On the back of the sundial there were also traces of mold growth and salt deposits. In 2023 the Directorate for Cultural Heritage NIKU commissioned NIKU to conserve the sundial. The present report documents the conservation work executed. The work included stabilization of construction, cleaning of dirt, mold and salts, as well as the conservation of paint layers and the treatment of fastenings and mountings made of metal. The latter was carried out by a metal conservator employed at Bevar ingstjenestene, Museumssenteret iHordaland.
